Well, maybe you have got the same confusion about PDF password setting. To make it clear, here we would like to introduce the tutorial on how to insert password into a PDF file with the most professional Adobe Acrobat. If you have install Acrobat on your computer, just follow the guide below to learn the way for creating password for PDF.
Tips: If the Acrobat you installed on your PC is not the same as the one we take as example as shown below, the screenshots might be a little different. But the setting method is similar, so you can also refer to it for help. If you haven't install Acrobat, you can go to Adobe Download Center to download it.
Guide: How to Insert Password in a PDF File
Step 1: Run Adobe Acrobat on your PC and open your target PDF file, then go to "Advanced" > "Security" > "Encrypt with Password" as shown below.

Step 2: You will see the prompt asked you "are you sure you want to change the security on the document". Just click "Yes" and go on.

Step 3: A new window will open with all the sets of setting. You can choose to tick the options as you need. Then hit on "OK" button and go to next step.
Tips: If you choose Acrobat 7, then the security setting will be compatible with the acrobat seven as well as the above version. And using Acrobat 7 is good, because most of the people using acrobat have acrobat 7 and the above mentioned version. In acrobat 9, there is higher encryption level with 256 bit.
Step 4: Here you need to choose "required a password to open the document option". Then in the highlighted text box create your own password. After clicking ok, it asks to retype the password for conformation.
Step 5: It will remind you that the settings will not applied until and unless you save in and press ok.
That's it! Now your PDF document is protected by password you set. When ever you try to open it, it will always ask for the password hence making your document quite safe and secure. Is that simple? Just open the Acrobat on your PC and try it by yourself. Hope helps.
